I know. It’s been a while. But I’m still here. And I am back a new person. No, I didn’t go on some spirituality trip or anything–I had to undergo surgery for a slightly complicated sinusitis problem. For months (years?) I was dealing with constant colds and excruciating pain in the forehead, followed by bouts of giddiness so sever that I had to resort to being on medication every time I stepped out.

A CT scan showed that all my sinuses (yes, there are several, apparently) were infected completely, and the infection seems to really like the idea of getting into my eye socket. To add to my woes, I had polyps (redcurrant like strings of cysts) in one nostril, which blocked the path and prevented the infection from coming out. This also meant that a lot less oxygen was entering my system. Add to that the blessing of DNS (deviated nasal septum), a condition in which the nasal bone is, well  crooked. Basically, it looked like I had no choice. So, after months of trying alternative medicine, breathing exercises and the like, I finally lay down on the OT table like a good girl. (There was a month long pre-op period in which my perfectly under control sugar levels were sent out of whack because my diabetes medication was contra-indicative for surgery; I was put on insulin and it took forever to settle, but that’s another story). Post surgery, my nose was stuffed with thin, foot-long pieces of gauze and taped shut for two days. I was in great discomfort for a few days but now, I know what it feels like to have a normal head again–not one that weighs a ton!

All that’s on the bad side. But there have been good reasons why I have been away, too–one of them is work. It has been a good first half of the year and I have been blessed with several projects of food consultancy that I am truly enjoying working on. I cannot divulge too many details, but there will be some very exciting things in the near future. Although I whine about it on some days, I am grateful for the opportunities that have come my way.

I have also been trying to spend more time with Avanee–she’s growing, she has so many questions, so many things to say and an endless amount of energy! She had summer holidays for two months and between all the running around, I have been trying to keep her busy–took her on an overnight journey to Hubli all by myself on a whim–felt so empowered! The family went off on a holiday in Goa where we ate loads of Poi (and filmed it being made–coming soon!) and tanned ourselves in the pool and on the beach. Starting today, she is back in school (woke up on her own and all!). Two days ago, I put ghungroos on her feet and mine, threw on a CD of Bharatanatyam basics and spent a blissful few minutes dancing the first few steps. It took me back decades ago–but that’s enough emotional atyaachaar for now.

Point is, I am around. I may not have posted much in the recent past but I have been cooking and baking and there is much to share. So thank you for being patient, dear reader. Your emails, Facebook messages, tweets, and comments have kept me sane and happy.

See you soon!
